On Behalf of the Reform Party National Committee and Reform Party members across America I want to wish you and your loved ones a Happy Independence Day.
As we celebrate our Nation’s Independence Day 2012, each and every one of should pause and take account of the incredible experiment that was born 236 years ago in 1776, when the first American Patriots sacrificed their lives, liberty and property in order to give birth to what Abraham Lincoln would call four score and seven years later, “a government of the people, for the people and by the people”.
The first American Patriots were not Democrats or Republicans and placed the interests of their Nation ahead of political considerations. Today’s elected Democrats and Republicans could learn for the example of American Patriots such as Washington, Adams, and Franklin.
The first American Patriots had a dream, the American Dream, a dream which held that the government would always flow from the people and would always act in the interest of the people.
Today, the American Dream, as envisioned by the first American Patriots has become distorted by mindless political cannibalism between two political parties. The American Dream as envisioned by the first American Patriots has become tarnished by institutional corruption which degrades the unique system of governance which they sacrificed so hard to create. Today, the American Dream, as envisioned by the first American Patriots, has become a distant memory in favor of adorations such as “SuperPacs”, “Lobbyists”, “Political Consultants”, “Polls”, and “access”.
As we gather together with our loved ones let us commit to renew the American Dream as envisioned by the first American Patriots. Americans need not look to Washington for a “Patriot”, but rather in the mirror and decide to take a personal decision to end the divisive partisanship in Washington by making a change personally and ending a relationship with the two incumbent political parties that no longer represent the interests of our Nation.
As we commemorate Independence Day 2012, every American should commit to putting the interest of our Nation ahead of political party interests and thus renew the American Dream as envisioned by the first American Patriots.
Change must begin with each and every one of us before we can change Washington.
