The Reform Party will remove the current models utilized in politics that increase one's own wealth or the power-base of their chosen party while in office. This can be achieved by:
Reforming lobbying regulations, ensuring no one political party has a greater than a one third representation within any regulating committee or body, reforming elected officials’ retirement packages and benefits, and by reforming processes for campaign fund raising. This would ensure that our lawmakers are accountable to their constituents, and that legislation is created for the good of the citizenry. This will also lead to a clear separation between elected officials, lobbyists, and special interest groups.
For a minimum of five years after leaving office, formerly elected officials should be prohibited from taking positions in any company or business where their exertion of political influence while serving in office directly and substantially benefited that particular entity. This restriction must include lobbyist positions as well. Violations should be subject to criminal penalties. America cannot continue the endless recycling of people between elected positions and lobbying groups, which is a clear conflict of interest.
