President Donald Trump was elected on the promise of “draining the swamp”. Donald Trump’s transition has illustrated that he will not keep the promise. The opportunity to make a statement on that subject was there, but too many swampy politicians were appointed to key positions.
- Elaine Chao, the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, is now Secretary of Transportation.
- Attorney General pick Jeff Sessions is a career conservative politician and entrenched Republican.
- HHS Nominee Tom Price is another career Republican and entrenched conservative
- Steven Mnuchin is a Goldman Sachs executive and Goldman Sachs has long been a target of anti-establishment politicos.
The largest swampy appointment however is Betsy DeVos. There have been concerns raised by both Democrats and a growing number of Republicans about the appointment of Betsy DeVos to head the Department of Education.
Betsy DeVos has no experience in public education. Her work in education as a whole is limited, and far below the point of competency. She is only being considered because she is a Republican donor. America needs an experienced educator to run the Department of Education.
The Senate must vote “No” on Betsy DeVos.
